Watch out for that <wet> snow-load !
.. not just for 1800's hotels - but for sheds, barns,
car-ports .. etc

https://london.ctvnews.ca/roof-of-historic-hotel-collapses-in-bayfield-1.7137932

The folks who live in Bayfield Ontario are not surprised by snow.
.. this wasn't a weird event - just worse than usual ..
Luckily no personal injuries.

and sadly the old Albion did NOT have a "truss" roof and the "bones"
were about 150 years? old. It was likely only about half as strong as
the day it was built. Hope they can get someone like MarSpan to get a
set of trusses put together and shipped over pretty quick to get it
weather-tite before too much more snow comes down.

Are there no local craftsmen capable of building trusses ? I copied
designs from online and built my own and I don't consider my self to be
a carpenter ... BTW , these were designed for at least 5 times the
average snow load for our area . The scissor trusses for the vaulted
ceiling in the dining room/kitchen area were the most fun .

They are all over in France working on the cathedral.
Amazing what they have done.

Yesssss...they brought in waves of illegal Muzzis to torch it, then
rehired them all to rebuild it:

https://www.middleeasteye.net/opinion/europe-great-cathedrals-owe-much-muslim-craftsmen

"At the Notre-Dame rebuilding, great care was taken by the leadership to
cast far and wide for the absolute creme de la creme of craftsmen,
wherever they were to be found.

The master carpenters, for example, working to recreate the wooden beams
of the cathedral’s roof trusses, were from the United States, the UK,
Spain, Denmark, Bosnia and India, as well as France.

They included Christians, Jews, Hindus and Muslims, all chosen because
of their high level of skill in using the traditional medieval methods
of craftsmanship, skills now in retreat under the onslaught of computer
precision, mass production and the relentless advance of industrial
technology "

Giverment defined.

You /LOVE/ tax, burn and rebuild scams like that, doncha Eddie P?

You fucking statist asshole.

Yes there are - MarSpan. The trusses must be engineered for the
application - this is a commercial building - and even residential
trusses need to be "signred off". We have more stringent regulations
up here - need to be designed for snow load and wind - among other
things. - and these are not "small" trusses either.

Mine aren't what I'd call "large" , I'm only spanning 24 feet . These
are exact copies of some I found on a truss design website . The only
difference is I used plywood instead of press plates . Out in the county
where we live there aren't any building codes as such . I have a
tendency to over engineer stuff especially where weight isn't a big
consideration . Doubled 2x12 floor beams instead of 2x10 and supported
every 8 feet instead of 10 , etc .
