Identify old Skilsaw miter saw. Guard available?
(too old to reply)

Years ago I bought an old miter saw at a Boy Scout fundraiser. I didn't have a use for it but it was a good cause, and cheap, less than $20 I think.

Then the sill plate rotted out in my shed, and I had to replace it, most of the studs, the window framing, etc., and it turned out the saw was the most useful tool I had. (I cut the first few studs with a handsaw, clamping a board on to get a straight cut, that got old fast.) But it came without a guard. I'd like to get one if they're available. Yes, I use it without the guard, leaving the blade down until it stops after every cut, but I don't like that.

I can't find a model number on it anywhere. Here's a photo:

If you mean a guard that covers the lower part of the blade as you raise
the saw, they probably never made such a thing for a saw that old. Maybe
someone made a general purpose add-on one, but I have never seen one.

I don't think you're right. There is a pivot bolt that looks like it would hold one. It matches a similar pivot on my circular saw, which does have a guard.

Also I found a reference on google to a miter saw guard problem where the guard came in contact with the blade and shattered.

Circular saw or miter saw?

2 different tools.

Hey, that's it! Thanks for researching that.

It's well built, looks like it will last forever. But parts will be a problem

Yeah, it may last a long time, but I wouldn't try any finish carpentry with it.

I'm doing repairs on my deck. Wet, pressure treated wood. For that I use
my beat up workhorse, an old Delta. My first miter saw, 35+ years old.
I actually built my deck with that saw.

My $600 Bosch Glide saw is dedicated to shop work, clean wood, finish cuts.

The Glide saw is Bosch's version of a sliding miter saw. It uses articulating arms
instead of rails. It's perfect for small shops because it can be placed right up
against a wall. Sliding saws with rails need a lot more space.

With my home-made zero-clearance fence, zero-clearance insert, and upgraded
dust collection chute, it's a really nice saw.

I stand corrected. The one I have have a guard pivoting for a point at
the center of the blade.

.

I have no idea. It's a page for sold item on an auction site. No real need
to look at it. it's just a picture of the saw.
